About Summer Youth Project

Summer Youth Project provides 250 young people aged 9 – 21 the opportunity to work together in a professional theatre. The two week project culminates in four performances of a full-scale musical on our main stage under the supervision of a highly skilled creative team including a professional Director, Choreographer, Musical Director, Musicians and Technical team all in less than two weeks! The Project provides a good foundation for those wishing to further their careers in this field.  Several previous Project members have gone on to study at theatre and dance schools and have successful careers both on stage and backstage

PERFORMERS

Our performers have the opportunity to work with a highly experienced creative team including a professional Director, Choreographer, Musical Director, and full band, to create a major musical on our main stage. Summer Youth Project is an inclusive and collaborative company. We respect everyone, learn from each other and work together to create something special.

Stage Performers Auditions

Our auditions involve acting, singing and movement and are led by our wonderful, welcoming creative team, who produce our show. You do not need to prepare anything as all songs and choreography are taught on the day. Performers wishing to audition for Summer Youth Project must be aged between 9 and 21, from Thurs 6 to Sat 8 August 2020.

TECHNICAL

Our Backstage and Technical opportunities offer an exciting experience to work as a production team on a major musical.

Participants get to work with industry-leading professionals to learn skills in: lighting, sound, set and prop construction, wardrobe and stage management.

Technical Interviews

You’ll take part in a group interview with the production’s Technical team. During this meeting, we’ll tell you all about our aims for the show, as well as giving you more info on all the opportunities available. You don’t need to bring anything with you. We’re just keen to meet you and hear about your thoughts and ambitions.

Technical Applicants must be aged between 14 and 21, from Sun 26 July to Sat 8 August 2020. For safety reasons, spaces are limited.

PARTICIPATION FEES

Participation fees for Summer Youth Project are £180.00 per participant. We endeavour to keep fees as low as possible, however, we do have to cover increasing costs of venue hire, pastoral care and technical elements during our rehearsal and performance periods.

It is our wish that no young person misses out due to financial constraints. For this reason we offer bursaries of up to 100% so that anybody is able to take part. We are happy to be paid in instalments and can discuss details and payment dates with you individually.

Terms and Conditions

Please note: once payment (or part-payment) has been made there are no refunds – you have committed to the Project and taken a place from another auditionee.

The fee does not include meals or transportation which remains your responsibility. All fees for Summer Project 2020 must be paid by: Fri 24 July 2020. Failure to pay will result in the exclusion of the participant from the show.

About Summer Youth Project

Summer Youth Project continues to evolve; every year we tackle the impossible and revel in the journey. It provides local young people with a unique opportunity to take an active interest in the performing arts and is a superb foundation for those wishing to further their careers in this field.

Numerous participants have gone on to have successful careers both on and off stage.  As well as being actively producing a show it helps our young company build confidence, develop skills, have fun in a creative environment, and make long-lasting friendships.

Over the two week project, Wycombe Swan Theatre comes alive to the sights and sounds of 200 young people doing everything they can to put on a full scale musical in time for curtain up!

Year-on-year we receive praise for the high standards that the show produces with a young cast in such a short space of time.

Age

Performers wishing to audition for Summer Youth Project must be aged between 9 and 21, from Thurs 6 to Sat 8 August 2020.

Technical Applicants must be aged between 14 and 21, from Sun 26 July to Sat 8 August 2020.

Auditions and Technical Interviews

Auditions and Technical Interviews for Summer Youth Project will be on Sun 3 May 2020.

The Audition Day & Casting

Due to the nature of a process such as this, initially you will be seen in groups.  Everyone will be given a chance to sing, dance and perform to us by 2pm.

After this time we may ask some of you to stay a little longer; there are various reasons as to why this may be. If you are not asked to stay on it does not mean that you have been unsuccessful.

Final selections will be made when everyone has left.  You will be notified in writing within two weeks whether you have been successful or not.

Please wear comfortable clothes that you can move in.  Please also bring a packed lunch, plenty to drink and a good book or something to do as there can be quite a bit of waiting around as we try to see everyone.  A finishing time is hard to predict so please bring a mobile phone to call home when you have finished.

Please note: Only people auditioning will be allowed into the auditorium and audition rooms.

Participants interested in working backstage on Summer Youth Project will need to arrive at 10am at the main Ticket Office doors on Sun 3 May 2020. The Technical Team will take all participants interested in backstage work and speak to each everyone about the areas that they could be involved in.

Although we do everything possible to make the auditions and interviews fair, for safety reasons we do need to limit the amount of spaces to ensure that all participants are well supervised and get the best out of their experience, therefore we may not be able to take on everyone that applies.

The decision of the Production Team on the day is final.

Dates

YOU MUST BE AVAILABLE FOR ALL OF THE REHEARSAL AND PERFORMANCE DATES

Because of the rehearsal time in which the show is put together you must be FULLY COMMITTED for the whole two weeks.

Performances
There will be four performances this year from Thu 6  - Sat 8 August 2020. All performances take place in on our main stage in the 1,000 seated Swan Theatre.
